What will Mariupol look like following regeneration?


According to the architects, an important component is also the construction of fundamentally new residential neighbourhoods and the de-sovietisation of infrastructure. The next stage will be the combination of the best proposals to create a detailed urban masterplan for Mariupol.

The four experts were:

  • Fulco Treffers, a Dutch expert and co-founder of the Ro3Kvit urban coalition
  • Viktor Zotov, founder of the CANactions educational platform and head of the Zotov&Co architectural bureau
  • Ukrainian architects Yana Buchatska and Anna Kamyshan, with urbanist Serhiy Rodionov
  • Victoria Titova, director of the BigCityLab urban bureau

The concepts were commissioned by Mariupol Reborn, the largest urban revival project in Europe since the Second World War, is being run by the team of Mariupol Mayor Vadym Boichenko on behalf of Pavlo Kyrylenko, Head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration.

It is supported by the public and private sectors. Lviv City Council is providing the premises. And the SCM Group, owned by Ukrainian businessman Rinat Akhmetov, has allocated $1.5 million to fund a strong expert team, launch an international training programme, and develop project development centres to attract further investment, including this first office in Lviv.
About Mariupol Reborn Mariupol Reborn is the largest urban revival project in Europe since the Second World War. The project is being run by the team of Mariupol Mayor Vadym Boichenko on behalf of Pavlo Kyrylenko, Head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration. It is supported by the EBRD, the USAID "Economic Support for Ukraine” project, and the SCM Group.
