Commissioner Simson travels to Beijing to co-chair EU-China High-Level Energy Dialogue

China is a key partner in global decarbonisation. Being jointly responsible for one third of the world’s final energy consumption, the EU and China share common interests and goals for pursuing the clean energy transition with a view to successfully implementing the Paris Agreement. This important meeting comes just a few weeks ahead of the UN Climate Conference COP28 in Dubai and builds on decades of co-operation in the energy field. The EU-China energy dialogue was established in 1994 and was deepened and intensified by the 2019 joint statement on the implementation of EU-China cooperation.

While in Beijing on Wednesday (11 October), Commissioner Simson will deliver a speech and meet professors at the North China Electric Power University. On Thursday (12 October) following the Energy Dialogue with the Director of the National Energy Administration, Zhang Jianhua, the Commissioner will deliver a keynote speech at the EU-China Energy Cooperation Platform’s flagship project "Investment and Technologies Planning for Net-Zero Carbon Infrastructure." Moreover, on that day, she will meet with EU and China business representatives. On Friday (13 October), the Commissioner will meet with representatives from the Huadian Group and visit in Tianjin the world’s largest solar, salt and shrimp power station, which combines solar energy with salt production and shrimp farming.
