The EU SEP Regulation: Exploring its implications

In April 2023, the European Commission proposed a new framework for Standard Essential Patents (SEP).

The proposed SEP Regulation aims to streamline SEPs licensing by improving transparency about SEPs. It also seeks to reduce information imbalances between SEPs holders and SEPs implementers, and to facilitate the agreement on fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND) licenses.

The SEP Regulation Conference delved into the EU’s SEP Regulation, which has sparked debate since its release.

This report examines the new SEP framework and its implications across different areas.
