Campaign exhibition for UK to re-join EU to be held in Parliament

The “Our Star” exhibition takes place in the balcony area of the parliament’s Spinelli building from 19 to 21 September.

The exhibition consists of two elements: ‘Our Star’ is a 2m tall large-scale symbolic sculpture, or talisman, that is said to symbolize the UK’s desire to find its future place in Europe.

It was made by the German sculptor and illustrator, Jacques Tilly and named ‘the UK’s Star of European Unity and Peace’.

It is being exhibited in the Parliament at the launch of a UK-based campaign called ‘Choosing our Future’, and the exhibition also includes discussion events to examine relevant topics.

The 2nd element is called “Remaining Memories, a photographic exhibition that recalls the protest marches and events held against Brexit in the UK by ‘grassroots’ pro-Union movements during the last seven years.

The images were selected from an extensive photo archive by Bruce Tanner, a photographer with over 30-years’ experience in the creative sector, including lecturing in UK, Estonia, Greece and France.

The entire exhibition is open each day from noon to 5pm.

As part of the campaign, other events are being held in parliament this week.

It all gets underway on 20 September, from 6pm-8pm, with an opening address called “Our Hopes for the Future” where Greens MEP Terry Reintke and others will share their future hopes for the UK and EU.

On 21 September at 3pm a dialogue discussion “Do Citizens’ Panels enhance Democracy?” will take place. This features MEPs Daniel Freund and Antony Zacharzewski and others who will discuss greater citizen participation in policy making.

After the expo in parliament ends the “Our Star” initiative departs to the UK to continue its campaign there.

The event organizers are OurStar.org.uk and Pro Europa, both campaigning groups working to reunite the UK with the EU.
